Chan Sow Lin

Chan Sow Lin (1845-1927), whose courtesy name was Yu Chi, was born in Changbing Village, Panyu County, Guangdong Province, China. At the age of 16, he came to Taiping, Perak, Malaya to work as a miner. In the early 1880s, he moved to Kuala Lumpur and worked for Loke Yew’s Tong Hing Loong company. Later, he established his own business and founded Kuala Lumpur’s first mechanical ironworks – the Chop Mee Lee, also known as Chan Sow Lin & Co. Ltd. He was appointed as a member of the Selangor State Council and a member of the Chinese Advisory Board. In 1918, he was conferred the title of Justice of the Peace. He was one of the founders of Chan She Shu Yuen Clan Ancestral Hall and served as the president of Kuala Lumpur Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Chik Sin Thong Funeral Parlour, Tung Shin Hospital and Confucian Chinese School. Chan Sow Lin Road in Kuala Lumpur is named after him. In 1907, a dispute arose over ownership of the land where Sin Sze Si Ya Temple is located, and the matter was taken to court. Ultimately, the court ruled in the land was donated by the Kapitan Yap Ah Loy to the temple and ordered the establishment of a trustee board to manage the temple’s property. Chan Sow Lin, the censer master of the temple, became the first chairman of the board of trustees, representing the Cantonese community. The commemorative plaque erected in front of the temple in honour of the four masters (Yap Ah Loy, Yap Chee Ying and Yap Kwan Seng and Chan Sow Lin) bears testament to Chan Sow Lin’s contributions. After his passing, Wong Po Chi took over the role of trustee.
Ong Chi Siew

Ong Chi Siew (1843-1918) a peranakan Chinese born in Malacca, with ancestor homeland in Hantang village in Tai Po. He was an important aide to Kapitan Yap Ah Loy, serving as a tax collector and master of the weights. He was also involved in tin mining, revenue farming and coffee planting. He was the president of the Selangor Char Yong Huey Kuan (Tai Po Association), donated $1,000 to renovate the Tai Po Association building and establish the “Hui Chun Hall”, serving the association for over twenty years. Ong also served as a board member of the Malacca Chinese Advisory Board, Malacca Poh Leung Kuk, Kuala Lumpur Sanitary Board, Tai Wah Fund, Confucian Chinese School and the Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce. He began serving as a Tai Po representative of the Sin Sze Si Ya Temple’s Board of Trustees since 1907. After his passing in Malacca, this trustee role was taken over by Wong Choon Nyen.
Cheong Yoke Choy

Cheong Yoke Choy (1873-1958), born in Xinhui, Guangdong. He arrived in this country at the age of 15, started work as a labourer in Rawang. He later worked at Tong Hing Loong company, founded by Loke Yew. Cheong, together with Chan Wing, founded Hong Fatt Tin Mining Company, and soon established Kwong Yik Bank. Known as ‘The Elderly Philanthropist’, he single-handedly founded the Pak Peng Free School and co-founded Pak Weng Girls School and Kwong Siew Free School. He also acts as trustees for Confucian School, Kuen Cheng Girls School, Wah Kiew Primary School, Kwong Siew Association, Chik Sin Thong Funeral Parlour and Selangor Chin Woo Athletic Association.
He was also one of the founders and President of the Selangor Kong Chau Association, the first president of the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, the president of the Chinese Maternity Hospital Kuala Lumpur, and as the Treasurer of the Kwong Tong Cemetery, Selangor Kwong Tong Association, Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Tung Shin Hospital. He was appointed as a member of the Selangor State Council by the British colonial government and was honored with the title of Justice of the Peace and the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.). Cheong Yoke Choy Road in Kuala Lumpur is named after him. In 1907, he served as the Cantonese representative on the board of trustees for the temple and was succeeded by Leung Cheung Ling after his passing.
Chin Choon

Chin Choon (-1926), manager of Chop Sing Gnee Hup, was one of the founders of Chan She Shu Yuen (Chan Clan Ancestral Hall), a founding member of the Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and one of the members of Malay States Miners’ Association. He was appointed as a member of the Kuala Lumpur Sanitary Board in 1903 and a member of the board of Visiting Justices for Kuala Lumpur. In 1907, he served as the first Fui Chiu representative on the board of trustees for the temple and and after his passing, this trustee position was taken over by Chan Kwan Tau.
Thong Tung

Thong Tung (-1918), originally named Thong Tung Coeng, was originally from Nanxiang Luotian Village, Liupo County, Guangxi Province. He was a pioneer of Kwangsi Cemetery in Kuala Lumpur. In July 1889, he applied to the British colonial government for a twenty-acre plot of land, establishing Kwangsi Cemetery and becoming its first chairman of the board of governor, with an office at Chop Siu Wo, Sultan Street. He was a mine overseer of Chop Sin Chew Kee, owned by Yap Kwan Seng, and also a trustee of Yap Kwan Seng’s estate together with Teh Seow Teng (Yap’s son-in-law) and Tai Kee, Yap’s eldest son. In 1907, he served as the first Guangxi representative of the Sin Sze Si Ya Temple’s Board of Trustees and was succeeded by his son- Thong Lin Hing after his death.6.
Goh Piang Shin

Goh Piang Shin (-1930) once served as the president of the Selangor Keng Chew Association and was involved in the establishment of Confucian School and Chiao Nan School in Kuala Lumpur. He also held the position of the first vice chairman of Board of Governors of Confucian school and a member of management committee of the Kwong Tong Cemetery Kuala Lumpur. In 1907, he served as the first Hainanese representative of the temple trustees and was succeeded by Tan Lu Sung after his passing.
Yap Loong Hin

Yap Loong Hin (1874-1937), originated from Huizhou, Guangdong province. He arrived in Kuala Lumpur at the age of fifteen. He was the eldest son of the fourth Kapitan Cina of Kuala Lumpur-Yap Chee Ying, also known as Yap Ah Shak, and a prominent tin mining magnate. He played a key role in the establishment of the Kuala Lumpur Confucian School, and served as the president of Selangor Fui Chiu Association, Kuala Lumpur Kwong Tong Cemetery, Kuen Cheng Girls’ School and Tung Shin Hospital; president of Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Selangor Yap Association, and Selangor Miners’ Association. He was also elected as a candidate for the National Assembly of the Republic of China in 1936, commended with the sixth class of the Order of the Precious Brilliant Golden Grain, and was also a Selangor Justice of the Peace and a member of Selangor Chinese Advisory Board. Loong Hin Road in Kuala Lumpur is named after him in 1938, but later was changed to Lorong Titiwangsa 4. In 1907, he assumed the role of the first Fui Chiu representative of the Sin Sze Si Ya Temple’s Board of Trustees and was succeeded by Yip Fat Yau after his passing.

Yap Loong Fong

Yap Loong Fong (-1939) originated from Huiyang, Guangdong province, was the nephew of Yap Ah Loy. In 1907, he assumed the role of Fui Chiu representative in the first temple trustees. Following his passing, he was buried in Kwong Tong Cemetery Kuala Lumpur, and the trustee position was succeeded by Hew Mun.
Low Leong Gan

Low Leong Gan (1881-1945) was born in Penang and moved to Kuala Lumpur at the age of six. He was the third son of Low Boon Kim, a well-known Selangor revenue farmer and tin miner. He received his education at Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur. Low Leong Gan inherited his father’s tin mining business and also ventured into rubber and real estate. He was a Justice of the Peace (JP) and served as a member of the Selangor Chinese Advisory Board and the Selangor State Council. In 1934, he was conferred with the title of “Dato” upon retirement, becoming the second Chinese individual in Selangor to receive his honour, following Lee Kong Lam. He was also one of the founders of the Confucian school, Selangor Anxi Association, Selangor Chinwoo Athletic Association and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall. Additionally, he served as the president of the Selangor Hokkien Association and the Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce. In 1907, he served as the Hokkien representative of the first Sin Sze Si Ya Temple’s Board of Trustees and was succeeded by Gan Pong Hoh after his passing.
Yap Tai Cheong

Yap Tai Cheong (-1942), the second son of Kapitan Yap Kwan Seng. His ancestral home was Beimen village, Cixi town, Guangdong province. After the death of his eldest brother, Yap Tai Kee, the estates of his father were left in trust to Yap Tai Cheong together with Thong Tung and his brother-in-law, Teh Seow Teng. He was a member of the Straits Chinese Recreation Club and the Island Club in Singapore. In 1907, he served as the Cantonese representative of the first Sin Sze Si Ya Temple’s Board of Trustees and was succeeded by Cho Yew Fai after his death.

Yeo Keng Hoe (1869-1946) was born in Shiguzai, Wenli village, Anbu town, Chaozhou. he came to Malaya at a young age and started his business in Kuala Lumpur. He established Hejing Limited Company and Weng Heng Winery, supplied canned food and wines from Europe and America. He was the founder of Selangor Yang Clan Association, served as the president of the Selangor Teo Chew Association, president of Kuala Lumpur Puay Chai school board of directors, a trustee of Kwong Tong Cemetery, and a committee member of the Selangor Chinese Chambers of Commerce. In 1919, he served as the Teochew representative of the temple’s trustees and was succeeded by Tay Chek Meng after his passing.
Wong Choon Nyen

Wong Choon Nyen originally from Dabu, Guangdong, was a committee member of the Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Selangor Char Association, as well as was involved in the establishment of the “Min Qi Daily” newspaper in Kuala Lumpur. He was appointed as the Dabu representative of the temple’s trustee and resigned from this position in 1958. His role as a trustee was subsequently taken over by Chau See Shak.
Thong Lin Hing

Chan Kwan Tau (-1935) born in Danshui village, Huiyang, Guangdong province. He served as a key aide to third Kapitan Cina of Kuala Lumpur, Yap Ah Loy. He was responsible for managing the transportation of Yap Ah Loy’s business operations, particularly the maritime transport between Malacca and Singapore. He also held positions as the chairman of the Huizhou Association in Singapore and a trustee for its properties, as well as a trustee for the properties of the Kuala Lumpur Fui Chiu Association. In 1927, he was appointed as the representative for the Fui Chiu community of the temple’s board of trustees. After his passing, his son, Chen Kam Loi, took over his role as a trustee.
Wong Po Chi

Wong Siew Chong (1875-1956) was born in Yimen village, Qinglan town, Hainan province. At the age of thirteen, he went to Sarawak to join his relatives. Later, he moved to Pulau Ketam, Selangor and worked in the fishing industry. Subsequently, he became the selling agent for Selangor Ice and Industrial Co. Ltd which is owned by Messrs. Huttenbach Lazarus. Throughout his life, he was engaged in various business ventures, including real estate, rubber planting, tin mining, hotels, theaters and bakery. He also held leadership positions within various organisations, such as President of the Selangor Hainan Association; President of United Hainan Association of British Malaya, auditor of Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, Co-fonder and president of Chiao Nan School in Kuala Lumpur, a member of the board of director of Confucian Secondary School and Kuen Cheng Girls’ School, and a committee member and trustee of the Selangor Anti-Opium Society, Selangor Chin Woo Athletic Association, as well as a member of the committee and board of trustees of Chik Sin Tong Funeral Parlor.
Wong was also a member of the Selangor Chinese Advisory Council and was appointed as a Justice of the Peace by the Sultan of Selangor in 1931. He was known for his generous contributions to his hometown, including donations to the Hainan Hospital in Haikou and the Wenchang Middle School in Hainan. In 1934, he was appointed as the Hainan representative for the trustee of the temple, and following his passing, this position was assumed by Lim Jew Siang.
Leong Lai Kam/ Leung Nai Kam/ Leong Lee Kim

Leong Lai Kam (1876-1936) was born in Guwang Village, Ziliang Town, Rong County, Guangxi Province, China. He came to Malaya in 1906 and later engaged in tin mining, rubber planting, construction work and the trade of herbal medicine. He was one of the founders of the Kuala Lumpur Guangxi Association, where he served as its treasurer, president (1928-1936) and trustee. He also held the position of chairman and trustee for the Kampar Guangxi Association and honorary president of the Tronoh Guangxi Association. He was a member of the board of director of Confucian School, vice-president of the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall and one of the founders of the New Yik Khuan Poh newspaper in Kuala Lumpur. He was appointed as a member of the Selangor Chinese Advisory Board and a Justice of the Peace. In 1934, he served as the Guangxi representative of the temple’s trustee and was succeeded by Pun Tiek Sang after his passing.
San Ah Wing

San Ah Wing (1873-1953) with ancestral roots in Shunde, Guangdong Province, was born in Hong Kong and became a prominent tin mining magnate in Kuala Lumpur. He was one of the founders of Kwong Yik (Selangor) Banking Corporation. His father, San Peng, was one of the pioneering miners and contractors in Selangor. He was appointed to the Federal Council in 1930, the Selangor Chinese Advisory Board, Kuala Lumpur Sanitary Board, assessor of the Supreme Court and a Justice of the Peace.
Among the many other posts he held were: president of Kwong Tong Cemetery, Shun Tuck Yik How (Provident) Association of Kuala Lumpur, Confucian School; vice-president of Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce (founder member); member of Tai Wah Committee and Chinese Relief Committee; patron and trustee of Yan Keng Benevolent Dramatic Association; patron of the Selangor Badminton Association; trustee of the Selangor Chinese Athletic Association (Chenwu); committee member of Miners’ Association, Anti-Opium Society, Selangor Property-owners and Ratepayers’ Association and Kuala Lumpur Chinese Maternity Hospital; member of Selangor Turf Club, YMCA, Kuala Lumpur Rotary Club, Weld Hill Club, Kuala Lumpur Recreation Club and several Chinese clubs.
San Ah Wing gave to charitable causes. He was the leading benefactor of Tung Shin Hospital and Shun-te Association and set up scholarships for the Methodist Boys’ School, Kuala Lumpur. He also was the chairman of the Chinese Sanatorium (Dusun Tua) Ltd. The road in Kuala Lumpur, Jalan San Ah Wing, is named in his honor. In 1934, he was appointed as a trustee representing the Cantonese community of the temple, and after his passing, this position was taken over by Chew Yee Nam.
Chong Kin Voon

Chong Kin Voon (1875-1962) was born in Taiping village, Meixian district, Guangdong, China. He was a prominent tin miner, overseas Chinese leader and philanthropist. In 1895, he arrived in Malaya and work as a manager in J.A. Russell & Co. Later, he ventured into the tin mining industry and founded Serendah Thart Lee Mine and several tin mining companies in Kundang, Selayang and Seremban. He held various leadership positions in the local Chinese community, such as the president of the Selangor Hakka Association, the trustee of Kwang Hua school, the chairman of the board of directors of Pudu Chong Fah Phit Chee primary school, the chairman of the Selangor Koo Seng Association and a board member of Selangor Ka Ying Association. In 1934, he served as the Ka Ying representative of this temple’s trustees, and also served as this temple manager. His major contribution during his tenure was the compilation of “A Brief History of the Kuala Lumpur Sin Sze Si Ya Temple”. After his passing, Chong Yow Shin succeeded him in the position of trustee.
Chan Kim Loy

Chan Kim Loy (1883-1963), the son of Chan Kwan Tau, the second-generation trustee of the temple, was born in Malacca with ancestral roots in Danshui Village, Huiyang,Guangdong Province, China. At the age of seven, he moved to Kuala Lumpur with his father and pursued his education in English school. After graduating, he worked as a sanitary inspector at the Kuala Lumpur Sanitary Board, eventually rising to the postion of Chief Inspector of Weights and Measures. After retiring in 1933,he became a licensed appraiser and auctioneer. He also served as honorary president of the Tsun Jin High School, director of the Fui Chiu Association and Malayan Provident Fund. In 1936, he was appointed as the trustee representing Fui Chiu community and also took on the role of treasurer for the temple. Following his passing, Liew Nam Kit succeeded him in the position of trustee.
Pun Tiek Sang

Pun Tiek Sang (-1945) from Guiping County, Guangxi Province, came to Malaya during his prime years and engaged in cultural activities. He worked as a newspaper editor. He served as the president of the Kuala Lumpur Kwangsi Association and as a director of Tung Shin Hospital. His son, owner the Singapore Chongqing Pharmacy, also served as an advisor for the Singapore Sam Poh Association. In 1938, he was appointed as the trustee representing the Guangxi community for the temple. Following his passing, the position of trustee was succeeded by Tham Mee Tong.
Yip Fat Yau

In 1938, he was appointed as the trustee representing the Fui Chiu community and was succeeded by Wong Pak Choy after his passing.
Hew Mun

Hew Mun (1877-1957) was a native of Longgang Town, Danshui, Huiyang, Guangdong Province, China. He arrived in Kuala Lumpur at a young age and engaged in tin mining business, owning several companies. He held various leadership positions in the local Chinese community, including being the president of the Selangor Fui Chiu Association, chairman of Selangor Fui Chiu Mutual Aids Association, honorary president of Selangor Foong Foo Lian Ngi Sha, chairman of Tsun Jin High School and Tung Shin Hospital and treasurer of the Nanyang Fui Chiu China Distress Relief Committee. He also served as a committee member of the Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, Selangor Kwang Tung Association, the Kuala Lumpur Kwong Tong Cemetery, Confucian Secondary School, Kuen Cheng Girls’ School, the Federation of Fui Chiu Association Malaya, Kuala Lumpur Hakka Association and Selangor Jiyi Tin Miners Mutual Aid Association. He was also appointed by the British colonial government as a member of the Kuala Lumpur Sanitary Board and the Selangor Chinese Advisory Council. He was awarded Justice of the Peace by Sultan of Selangor in 1938. A year after that, he was appointed as the trustee representing the Fui Chiu community, and after his passing, the position of trustee was succeeded by Hew Tam Shui.
Wong Pak Choy

Wong Pak Choy (1881-1940) originally from Baishi Dong Village, Qiuchang Town, Huiyang County, Guangdong Province. At the age of eleven, he came to Malaya with his mother and joined his father in Pudu. He began his career in the rubber and mining industry, eventually became a tycoon of the tin industry. In 1939, he became the president of the Selangor Fui Chiu Association and undertook the reconstruction of the old association building into a new four-storey building. He donated $20,000 to purchase a land on Loke Yew Road in Kuala Lumpur for the construction of the Tsun Jin School. During the Sino-Japanese War, he served as the chairman of the Nanyang Fui Chiu China Distress Relief Committee and organised the Dongjiang Overseas Chinese Return Home Service Brigade. He personally visited the occupied areas in Dongjiang, donated large sums of money, and mobilized thousands of overseas Chinese youths to support China’s resistance against the Japanese invasion. Wong Pak Choy also held various positions, including a member of Selangor Chinese Advisory Board, president of the Selangor Fui Chiu Association, chairman of the Selangor Fui Chiu Mutual Aid Association, chairman of the Tsun Jin School in Kuala Lumpur and a committee member of the Selangor China Relief Fund. He was also a committee member of various organisations such as the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, the Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the Selangor Miners Assocation, Kuen Cheng Girls’ School and the Selangor Kwang Tung Association, and the treasurer of the Kuala Lumpur Kwong Tong Cemetery and Chong Fah Phit Chee school in Pudu. Yap Kim Loong

Yap Kim Loong (-1946) was a surveyor at the Malayan Collieries in Batu Arang, proficient in both Chinese and English. He was the proprietor of the well-known company chop Sin Mo Fat in Batu Arang and also served as the chairman of the board of directors for Chap Khuan Primary School Batu Arang. He held several key positions, including honorary general manager of the Nanyang Fui Chiu China Distress Relief Committee, auditor of the Federation of Fui Chiu Association Malaya, leader of China Relief Fund in Batu Arang, the president of the Selangor Hui Chiu Association, a trustee of the Yap Association in Kuala Lumpur, the manager of the Fui Chiu Mutual Aid Association, one of the founders of the Selangor Kwang Tung Association. He also held the position of Deputy Investigator and was entrusted with various other responsibilities. In 1941, he was appointed as the Fui Chiu representative of the temple’s trustee and was succeeded by Choo Yin Lu after his passing.

Cho Yew Fai (1894-1972) originally from Jinzhuli Village, Tangxia Town, Xinhui City, Guangdong Province. He moved to Kuala Lumpur in 1914 to run a plantation, tin mining and petrol business. He took an active part in politics and was in the leadership of the local Kuomintang. When the MCA was formed, he was a member of the party’s Central Working Committee. He was appointed Visitor to the Sungei Buloh Leper Settlement and an advisor to the Juvenile Court, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Advisory Board. He also named as Justice of the Peace.
He was active in various other social and cultural organizations.He was the Vice President of the Federation Chin Woo Association Malaya, President of the Selangor Chin Woo Athletic Association, Vice President and Trustee of the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, Honorary Manager of the Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce, President of the Chik Sin Thong Funeral Parlour, Chairman of Selangor Chinese Welfare Association, President and Trustee of the Kwong Tong Cemetery, President and Trustee of the Selangor Kong Chou Association, president of the Kong Chou Association’s Friendship and Mutual Aid society, Trustee of Yoong Yoong Benevolent Association, Trustee and Vice President of Kwong Siew Association. Cho was also in the committees and boards of the Chinese Maternity Hospital, Tung Shin Hospital, Lady Templer Hospital Appeal Fund, Selangor Guangdong Association, Selangor Basketball Association, Zui Yue Theatre Group, head of Nanyang Pushan Institute and several Chinese schools, such as Treasurer of Confucian School, Supervisor of Pak Peng Free School, a member of the board of Kuen Cheng Girls’ School, Supervisor of Chin Woo Primary School. He was a renowned liquor merchant and also acted as an agent for canned goods and sundries. He served as the president of the Selangor Wine and Spirit Dealers’ Association and Selangor Teochew Eight Districts Association, the founder of the Federated Teochew Associations of Malaysia, the vice chairman of Selangor Tung Shin Hospital, the head of Board of Directors of Puay Chai School, the committee member of the Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce, a member of board of directors of Confucian Secondary School and Kuen Cheng Girls’ School. He was also the vice president of Selangor Kwang Tung Association, chairman of the Federated Selangor Eng Yong Tong Associations, honorary president of Central Malaysia Canned Food Wholesalers’ Association and other important positions. In 1946, he served as the president and also Teo Chew representative of this temple’s trustees and was succeeded by Tay Koong Wee after his death.

Chew Yee Nam (-1980) originally from Longxi, Taishan, Guangdong province. He established Cheong Kee Ice Cream, Cheong Kee Restaurant and Cheong Kee Spices Shop and also an importer of European and American fruit juice beverages. He also established the famous Kam Ling Restaurant, one of the four major restaurants in Kuala Lumpur in the 1960s and 1970s. In addition, he inherited his father’s plantation business.
Chew held various positions, included the president of the Pan-Malayan Coffee Shopkeepers’ General Association, the Selangor Chinese Coffee and Tea Shopkeepers Association, the Selangor Thoy Shan Association, and the Kuala Lumpur Kwong Tong Cemetery. He also held senior position and trusteeship of the Kuala Lumpur Kwong Siew Association, the honorary President of the Federated Nanyang Chow Clan Association and a committee member of the Confucian Secondary School. In 1954, he served as the president and Cantonese representative of this temple’s board of trustees. The trusteeship was succeeded by his son, Chew Sin Chong after his passing on January 3, 1980.

Lim Jew Siang (1913- 1996 ) originally from Xiyuan Village, Guannanxu, Huiwen Town, Wenchang County, Hainan Province, China. He once was a teacher before involved in business. Later, he engaged in the hotel, inn, money-changing and real estate industry. He founded and served as chairman of the board of directors of Paramount Realty Sdn Bhd, Paramount Credit Limited, Sino Malay Tobacco Sdn Bhd, Kowloon Hotel, Paramount Winery, Paramount Hotel, Wah Mei Trading Company and Lim Jew Siang and Sons Sdn Bhd. Later he entered politics and was elected as the Kuala Lumpur City Councillor and the Selangor State Legislator in 1958, and was appointed as the Selangor State Executive Councilor in 1965. In 1967, he was conferred the title of “Datuk” by the Sultan of Selangor.

During the 1920s and 1930s, along with his two brothers, founded the Tai Wah Textile Co. located on the Cross Street in Kuala Lumpur, near the then Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. He was the treasurer of the Textiles & General Goods Importers & Exporters Association of Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory & Selangor, a committee member of the Selangor Chinese Textiles & General Goods Merchants Association, a member of the board of director of the Nankai Primary School and the honorary president of the Nanyang Char Yong Chow Clan Association. In 1946, he became an inspector of Chinese schools in the Federation of Malaya and later resigned to become a businessman. He was a Member of the Federation of Malaya Legislative Council since 1948 a nd Selangor State Councilor from 1948 to 1955. Chong Yow Shin (1900-1974), the owner of Ampang Yaofeng Tin Mining Company and Port Dickson Yow Shin Tin Mining Company. He was the president of Selangor Ka Yin Association, honorary secretary of the All-Malayan Chinese Miners Association and a board member of Kuala Lumpur Chung Kwo Primary School. He was also a committee member of the Malayan Mining Employers’ Association, Miners’ Association of Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang, Selangor Miners Club, Selangor Miners Association, Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce, F.M.S. Chau Kuet Thai was born on 27 November 1941, in Kuala Lumpur, with ancestral roots in Gutian County, Dabu Province. His father, Chau See Shak, was a former trustee of this temple. He grew up in Pudoh Street and attended Nan Kai Primary School and Confucian Private Secondary School, After graduating from secondary school, he assisted his father in managing the Tai Wah Textile Co. He was appointed as the trustee represent Dabu community of the temple in 1972 and is currently serve as the Secretary General of the temple. With 52 years of dedicated service, he is the trustee with the longest tenure, serving continuously to the present day.
Low Sai Kow

Ng Beh Tong (1926-2019) was born in Kuala Lumpur and traced his ancestry to Yongchun, Fujian. He graduated from Confucian Primary School in Kuala Lumpur, St. John’s Institution, and the Department of Mineral Engineering at the University of Melbourne, Australia. After completing his studies, he assisted his father in the tin mining industry. He became active in Chinese organizations and community welfare activities in the 1960s. Some of the organizations he was involved in include the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Hokkien Association, the Federation of Hokkien Associations of Malaysia, the Kuala Lumpur Eng Choon Hoey Kuan, the Associated Eng Choon Societies of Malaysia, the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Ng Teng Chin (Ng Clan) Association Malaysia. He served as president and honorary president for several of these organizations. In the field of Chinese education, he served as the chairman of the Kuala Lumpur Lai Meng Primary School and Chong Hwa Independent High School Kuala Lumpur, as well as the Kuala Lumpur Chung Hwa Girls’ School and Confucian Private Secondary School. He also served as the chairman of the board of directors of Tong Shin Hospital. In 1974, he was appointed as the chairman and Hokkien representative for the temple’s board of trustees and was succeeded by Lim Chong Keang after his death.

Wong Ki Leung

Wong Ki Leung (1911-1983) was born in Hong Kong, with ancestral roots in Huiyang, Guangdong, and his family had lived in Tai Hang, Hong Kong. Before World War II, he was a renowned goalkeeper in Hong Kong football, representing both the Hong Kong national team and the China national team. He played a crucial role in helping China win the football championship at the 10th Far Eastern Championship Games. He also participated in the World Games and earning acclaim. He retired from sports in 1938 and ventured into business in Southeast Asia. During World War II, it is said that he joined a guerrilla force in Malaya and was captured by the Japanese, enduring severe torture. After the war, he remained in Malaya and held various positions in sports organizations, including being the president of the executive committee of the Malaysian Chinese Football Association (MCAF), vice president of MCAF, chairman of the Malaysian Football Selection Committee, chairman of the Board of Committee of the Malaysian Basketball Association, and honorary president and advisor of the Malaysian Basketball Association. In 1965, at the behest of Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, he was appointed to organise the Malaysian Women’s football team, making significant contributions to the development of football and basketball in Malaysia. He was also served as the general affairs officer of the Selangor Fui Chiu Association, besides appointed as the Fui Chiu representative of the temple’s board of trustee. After his passing, the role of trustee representative was succeeded by Hew Wee Ting.
Chong Teak Lai

Chong Teak Lai (1939-2022)was born in Kuala Lumpur and had ancestral roots in Huizhou, Guangdong Province. He graduated from the University of Malaya with a degree in Business Administration. In his youth, he worked as a government civil servant and later ventured into the field of investment and property development. He served as the General Manager of the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Fui Chiu Association, a director of the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, a chairman of the board pf directors of the SJK(C) Kampung Baru Semenyih and a board member of the Tsun Jin High School. Introduced by the then trustee Lee Tham Loy, he was appointed as the trustee representing Fui Chiu in the temple in 1980. After his death, the position was taken over by Hew Hoi Lam.
Chew Sin Chong

Chew Sin Chong was born in Kuala Lumpur on 2 October 1947, with ancestral roots in Taishan, Guangdong Province. His father, Chew Yee Nam, who was one of the trustees of the temple. After graduating from the Methodist Boys’ School in Kuala Lumpur, he assisted in managing his father’s family business. Following his father’s passing, he, along with his mother and brothers, jointly operated the family business and is currently one of the shareholders of Cheong Kee Company Sdn Bhd. The family business, Cheong Kee, originally started as an ice supplier and has a history of about a century. Later, Cheong Kee was transformed from being an ice supplier to a coffee shop. The signature dish at Cheong Kee Coffee Shop was a kind of ice dessert. In the past, people disembarking at the nearby train station in Kuala Lumpur would eagerly head to Cheong Kee for its iconic ice cream. Nowadays, Cheong Kee mainly sells food colouring, catering mainly to the food and beverage industry, including roast pork providers, pastry makers, and the food processing industry, such as Kam Lun Tai. After his father’s demise, he was recommended by Tang Chuan Onn, the then temple manager, and was appointed as the Cantonese representative of the temple’s trustee in 1980. He was elected as the treasurer in 1983, and has been serving in this capacity ever since.
Lee Tham Fook

Lee Tham Fook (1930-2009) with ancestral origin from Huiyang, Guangdong Province, was the son, Lee Tham Loy, a trustee of the temple. He was the Secretary General of the Registry of Societies in the government until his retirement, and the trustee, Low Sai Kow was his superior. Upon retirement, he became the general manager of the family-run Silvertop Private Taxi Company. He also served as a trustee of the Yoong Yoong Benevolent Association. In 1983, he was appointed as the Fui Chiu representative of the temple’s trustee and was succeeded by Wong Sue Kau after his passing.

Chong Kwo Kee was born in Kuala Lumpur on 14 March 1953, with ancestral roots in Meizhou, Guangdong Province and grew up in Peel Road, Kuala Lumpur. His late father, Chong Fai Sze, was a former property trustee of this temple. During his primary school life, he attended Kuala Lumpur Chin Woo Primary School and Kuala Lumpur Methodist Boys School (afternoon session). After graduating from St. John’s Institution in Kuala Lumpur, he went to the University of Portsmouth in the United Kingdom to pursue a Bachelor of Molecular Science degree. After he returned from his studies, he joined the marketing industry, and later joined an American insurance company. Later, he started a business, involving fields including house renovation, industry, insurance, agency and so on. He also been employed in a business of marine equipment materials. He is now retired to devote himself to the services of transportation and logistics. After the death of his father Chong Fai Sze, he was introduced by the then Premier Lim Jew Siang. In 1983, he was appointed as the Ka Ying representative of this temple’s trustee, and served as the auditor of this temple from 2000 until now.
Hew Wee Ting

Hew Wee Ting was born in Selangor on 11 August 1936 and with ancestral root in Tangbei Village, Danshui, Huiyang, Guangdong Province. He graduated from the Civil Engineering Department of the University of South Bank, London. He is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, and the Highway Engineers Association in the UK. He was honored as a “Royal Chartered Engineer” in the UK, a member of the Malaysian Engineering Association, and a Malaysian Professional Engineer. He was conferred the title of Dato’ on the 84th birthday of His Majesty Sultan Amar Shah of Pahang in 2015. Throughout 25 years, starting in 1987, he successfully turned the Hui Lian Holdings and its subsidiaries from losses to profits. In 1992, he transformed the abandoned site of Wisma Fui Chiu into the present building. He also won the Best Design Award in the 1993 nationwide emblem design competition for the Federation of Fui Chiu Association Malaysia with the theme “Twin Geese Soaring Together.” In 2003, he received the Mauritius Tourism Award in a competition sponsored by Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited. In 2019, he was selected as one of the global representatives in the “Chinese Model Celebrity Hall” during the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
He has held various positions in organizations such as being the director of Tsun Jin High School, the treasurer of the 15th World Hakka Conference, the president and trustee of the Selangor Fui Chiu Association, the vice president and head of expansion group of the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, Central Committee and head of hall decoration of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia, and vice president of the Federation of Fui Chiu Association Malaysia. He is currently a trustee of the Yoong Yoong Benevolent Association, advisor to the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Hakka Association, advisor to the Federation of Hakka Association of Malaysia, permanent honorary president of the Selangor Fui Chiu Association, permanent honorary president of the Salak South Fui Chiu Association and the permanent honorary president of the Hew Clan Association. He was appointed as the Fui Chiu representative of the Temple Trustees in 1984 on the recommendation by the then trustee, Chong Tet Loi. He was appointed as the temple’s treasurer in 1987, the chairman of the Building Planning Committee in 2017 and the temple’s president in 2019, a position he still holds.
Lee Teck Choy

He also served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Li Ke Holdings Limited, Li Ke Housing Development Co., Ltd. and Lijia Bao Industry Co., Ltd., and as the Financial Director of Sri Rompin Development Sdn Bhd. Lee Teck Choy previously held roles such as director of Tung Shin Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, the treasurer and director of the Malaysia Selangor & Federal Territory Dragon and Lion Dance Federation, the head of the Youth Division of Kwangsi Association of Selangor, the founder and treasurer of the Kuala Lumpur Dance Association, the head of the Youth Division of the Guangxi Association of Malaysia, and the advisor of Hong Kong Guangxi Association Private Ltd., the advisor of Bird Association, Permanent Honorary President of the Youth Division of Kwangsi Association of Selangor, and served as the President of Kwangsi Association of Kuala Lumpur from 1985 to 1989, a board member of the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, the permanent honorary president of the Youth Division of the Guangxi Association of Malaysia, and the president of Guangxi Association of Malaysia, and president of the World Guangxi Community Federation. In 1985, he served as Guangxi representative of the temple’s trustees, a position he held until his resignation in 1990 when he immigrated to Canada. The role of trustee was then assumed by Chan Woon Chan.
Teo Soo Cheng

Teo Soo Cheng (1925-2014) was born in Malaysia, with his ancestral roots in Lugang village, Fourth district (now known as Lugang Town in Chaonan District). His father, Teo Hang Sam, was the founder of the See Hoy Chan Group. At the age of 12, Teo Soo Cheng began assisting his father in selling chickens, ducks, and eggs at the Central Market in Kuala Lumpur. The Teo family engaged in the trade of grains and rice during World War II, transporting rice from Thailand to Singapore and Malaya. After the war, See Hoy Chan Group expanded its business to Thailand, Myanmar, the Middle East, Hong Kong and Indonesia, becoming the largest rice importer and wholesaler in Malaya and earned the title of the “Rice King” of Malaya.
In 1963, he ventured into the real estate industry and later developed Bandar Utama, transforming it into an upscale town in Selangor. In 1979, he was conferred the Datukship by the Sultan of Selangor, and in 1999, he received the prestigious title of Tan Sri from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia for his unwavering leadership.
He also held various positions, including Vice President of the Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Vice President of Selangor Teochew Eight Districts Association, and the President of the Rice Importers and Exporters Association, Patron of the Malaysian Developers’ Association, and Honorary President of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM). In 1991, he was appointed as Teo Chew representative of the temple’s trustees, a position he held until his passing on May 15, 2014. His role as trustee was then assumed by his son, Teo Chiang Kok.
Tong Min Yee

Tong Min Yee (1922-2005) hailed from Hou Pai Village in Beipo City, Wanning County, Hainan. After leaving school he came to Malaya, where he worked as a domestic worker in Fraser’s Hill, and used his free time to study English. After the Second World War, he moved to Kuala Lumpur to pursue opportunities in the food and beverage industry. In 1965, he entered into a joint venture to run the Yong Len Restaurant and in 1970 he invested in the Yi Nan Wang hotel and nightclub. He held various roles, including Vice Chairman of the Selangor Coffee Shop Proprietors’ Association, board member of the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, General Affairs Manager of the Federation of Ban Ning Fellowship Association of Malaysia, General Affairs Manager and President of the Selangor Ban Ning Association, a board member of the Yoke Nam Primary School and Chiao Nan Primary School, President and Deputy General Affairs Manager of the Chong Zhen Drama Society, Director of the Tung Shin Hospital, Executive Committee of the Federated of Keng Chew Association Malaysia, Founder and President of the Dealers Association of Coffee Bar & Restaurant Petaling Jaya and President of the Malaysia Singapore Coffee Shop Proprietors’ General Association. In 1991, he was appointed as the Hainan representative of the temple’s trustee and was succeeded by Lim Ming Swee after his passing.
Chan Woon Chan

Chan Woon Chan (1939-2006) was born in Pahang, with ancestral roots in Boli, Rong County, Guangxi. In his early years, he graduated from Nanyang University in Singapore and later ventured into shoe business. He has served as the President of the Selangor Kwangsi Association, Executive Secretary of the Kwangsi Association of Malaysia, a board member of the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, Vice President of the World Kwangsi Community Federation, President of the Kwangsi Association of Malaysia, a board member of the Kuala Lumpur Tung Shin Hospital, trustee of the Yoong Yoong Benevolent Association, and council member of the Shoe Industry Association. In 1991, he was appointed as the Kwangsi representative of the temple’s trustees and was succeeded by Kong Mun Cheong after his passing in August 15, 2006.
Sung Siew Thong

Sung Siew Thong was born in Kuala Lumpur on 21 December 1936, with ancestral roots in Pinggangxu, Yayao Town, Heshan, Guangdong. He graduated from Confucian Private Secondary School, and obtained a Master of Business Administration from an American University. He has held various positions, including Managing Director of Kwong Yuen Machinery & Hardware Sdn. Bhd., Director of Hong Yuen Machinery Engineering Sdn. Bhd., Director of Wujie International Investment Company and Chairman cum Managing Director of Siew Thong Sdn. Bhd. Since 1971, he has been actively involved in the Canton Fair, serving as the head of the delegation more than seventy times over the past forty years. He has maintained business ties with China for over sixty years. Within the Malaysian Chinese community, he has held positions as a director and in various capacities in organizations such as the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, the Chinwoo Athletic Association of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, Selangor Chinese Guilds Association, the Selangor & KL Foundry & Engineering Industries Association, the United Chinese School Alumni Associations of Selangor, the Kuala Lumpur Confucian Primary School, the Confucian Independent Secondary School and the Confucian School Alumni Association. Currently, he serves as an advisor to the Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Kuala Lumpur & Selangor, an advisor to the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce, a board member of Tung Shin Hospital, President of the Chan Sow Lin Road New Street Business Association in Kuala Lumpur, and Honorary President of the Kuala Lumpur Hock San Association. He was recommended by the then Trustee, Teo Soo Cheng, and served as the Cantonese representative of the temple’s trustees in 1999 and and has been serving in this capacity ever since.
See Kam Fook

See Kam Fook was born on 24 January 1945 in Kuala Lumpur, with ancestral roots in Xinhui, Guangdong. He graduated from Confucian Private Secondary School in 1963. He serves as the Chairman of Wufeng Machinery and Hardware Sdn Bhd and a board member of the Tung Shin Hospital Kuala Lumpur. Within the Malaysian Chinese community, he previously held the position of the Director of the Human Resources Department of the The Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor and the Deputy Director of the Human Resources Department of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (NCCIM). He actively encouraged many small and medium-sized enterprises to make good use of the financing, incentives and loans provided by the government and banks. He was recommended by the then chairman of the board of trustees, Ng Beh Tong, and the trustee Sung Siew Thong, and was appointed as the Cantonese representative of the temple’s trustee in 2002 and has been serving in that capacity ever since. Over the years, he has been the head of the temple scholarship committee, selecting and assisting many underprivileged students in obtaining scholarships provided by the temple, assisting them complete their education and giving back to society.
Lim Ming Swee

Lim Ming Swee (1931-2021) was born in Penang, and his ancestral roots in Wenchang City, Hainan Province. He graduated from Dublin University with a degree in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. During the construction of the Thean Hou Temple, he served as the structural engineer for the temple. He previously held the position of Executive Chairman and Consulting Engineer of Rahmat-Chuah & Lim Sdn Bhd, Secretary of the Petaling Jaya Kwan Inn Teng Temple Foundation, a council member of the Hainan Wen Chang Association, the Selangor & Federal Territory Hainan Association, Malaysian Hainanese Lim Clan Association, the Kuala Lumpur Chiao Nan Primary School and the St. Teresa Primary School. In 2005, he was appointed as the representative of the Hainanese trustees for the temple, and was succeeded by Wong Jee Seng after his resignation on 29 September 2018.
Kong Mun Cheong

Wong Sue Kau

Wong Sue Kau (1927-2018) was born in Selangor, with ancestral roots in Huiyang, Guangdong. In the fourth grade of primary school, the Japanese invaded Malaya, and his entire family sought refuge in Pahang. After the war, he moved to Pudu and attended Confucian Private Secondary School as an overage student. His father, Wong Kok Kwong, was the owner of Pahang Mail Sdn. Bhd. contracting mail transport from Kuala Lumpur to Pahang and also engaging in the transportation business. After graduating, he joined his father’s company and eventually took over his father’s business. Within the Chinese community, he held various positions such as the President of the Table Tennis Association of Malaysia, Chairman of the United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Selangor and Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, National Treasurer of the United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong), Director of Tsun Jin Secondary and Primary Schools. In 2009, he served as Fui Chiu representative of the temple’s trustees and was subsequently assumed by Loo Thian Pow after his passing on 13 October 2018.
Teo Chiang Kok

Teo Chiang Kok was born on 26 July 1947 in Selangor, with ancestral roots in Lugang Village, Fourth District (now Lugang Town, Chaonan District), he is the eldest son of the former temple trustee Teo Soo Cheng. He attended Batu Road Primary School in Kuala Lumpur and graduated from Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur. After completing his secondary education, he pursued further studies at King’s College, University of London, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1969. He continued his studies in 1970 and obtained a Master of Science in Operations Research and Management from the University of Warwick in the UK, and in 2009, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from Nottingham Trent University. He was conferred the title of Dato by the Sultan of Selangor in 1992 and the title of Tan Sri by Yang Dipertuan Agong in 2014. Since 1973, he has served as a director of See Hoy Chan Holdings Group, accumulating 50 years of experience in urban development, overseeing the development of numerous commercial buildings, corporate plazas, shopping malls, and housing projects. Among them, Bandar Utma stands out as an award-winning premium township, with One Utama Shopping Centre being a nationally renowned large-scale shopping mall, ranking as Malaysia’s largest and the sixth-largest globally. Currently, within the Chinese community, he holds various significant roles, including Chairman of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia’s (ACCCIM) Construction, Real Estate, and Infrastructure Committee, Advisor to ACCCIM’s Digital Economy Committee, Vice President and Director of the Construction and Real Estate Committee of the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Chinese Chamber of Commerce, First Vice President of Tung Shin Hospital, Director of the Chinese Maternity Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Vice Chairman and Treasurer of Kuen Cheng High School, Chairman of Puay Chai II Primary School, Chairman of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College Industry Advisory Council, Committee Member of the Bandar Utama Buddhist Society, Honorary President of the Selangor & Kuala Lumpur Teo Chew Association and Chairman of the Wisma Chinese Chamber Management Company. Tern Horng Jyh

Tern Horng Jyh was born on 11 December 1965 in Kuala Lumpur, with ancestral roots in Cenxi, Guangxi, he graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the National Chengchi University in Taiwan. After graduating, he he founded Burnise Trading Co., Ltd. In 1998, after nine years, the partners and shareholders exited the company, and he went on to establish another company, which he continues to manage. He is also involved in the pet food business. In 1997, he pursued a Master’s degree in Business Administration. He has served as the Secretary-General of the Guangxi Association of Malaysia, the President of the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Kwangsi Association, and the Treasurer of the Confucian Private Secondary School, Kuala Lumpur. Recommended by lawyer Tun Michael Chen Wing Sum, he was appointed as the Guangxi representative of the temple’s trustees in 2015 and has been serving in that capacity since then.
Wong Jee Seng

Wong Jee Seng was born on 22 October 1961 in Negeri Sembilan, with ancestral roots in Dingan County, Hainan. After completing his secondary education, he pursued further studies in the United Kingdom. He attained the qualification of a Chartered Accountant in the UK, graduating with first-class honours and securing the top rank among all Malaysian candidates. He also participated in Advanced Executive Administration program in Harvard University. After graduation, he entered the financial industry and served as a senior Bank Executive for two decades. He served as the Chief Operating Officer at Public Bank, where he also held roles as the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Risk Officer, trainer and motivator. He is recognised as a pioneer authority in capital management in the Malaysian banking industry, conducting risk assessments for funds totaling around RM60 billion. He led several impactful policies and acquisition transactions during his career. Additionally, he served as an examiner for the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers. Recommended by lawyer Sharon Lee, he was appointed as the representative of the Hainan trustees for the temple in 2019 and has been serving in that capacity since then.
Loo Thian Pow

Born: 1964

Loo Thian Pow was born on 22 November 1964 in Selangor, with ancestral roots in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, he participated in courses related to the construction of electrical cables at the Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). During his leisure time, he engaged in courses to enhance his knowledge, particularly in the field of cable engineering. He attended courses on cabling practices and the structure and design of cabling systems at the Multimedia College Kuala Lumpur. After graduating, he started as a cargo clerk and, at the age of 19, managed a thousand acres of cocoa plantation in East Malaysia under the guidance of his uncle. After five years, he returned to West Malaysia and led a team of workers to undertake small-scale tar road construction projects.
In 1992, he founded a cable company and an electrical engineering company. He is also a member of the Electrical and Electronics Association of Malaysia (TEEAM). In 2016, he was elected as the Chairman of the See Ya Kung Semenyih. In addition, he is also a committee member of the Melaka Nam Thian Kiong. In 2019, he was recommended by the chairman Hew Wee Ting as the Fui Chiu representative of the temple’s trustee and has been serving in that capacity since then.
Lim Chong Keang

Lim Chong Keang was born on 24 August 1944 in Perak, with ancestral roots in Longyan, Fujian, he obtained a Bachelor of Science from Nanyang University in Singapore, a Master of Science from Saskatchewan University in Canada, and a Doctor of Philosophy from McGill University in Canada. He has held various academic positions, including Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Malaya, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Xiamen University (Malaysian Campus), Dean and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sepang Institute of Technology, Visiting Professor at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan and Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto in Canada. He has also served in leadership roles in various mathematical and academic associations, including multiple terms as President of the Malaysian Mathematical Society, President of the Southeast Asian Mathematical Society (SEAMS), Chairman of the Board of Governors of New Era University College, President of the Nanyang University Alumni Association of Malaya, President of the Federation of Hokkien Associations of Malaysia, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Centre for Malaysian Chinese Studies, President of the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Hokkien Association and President of the Federation of Lung Yen Association of Malaysia.
Currently, he holds honorary positions such as Executive Director of the Nantah Education and Research Foundation, Honorary President of the Nanyang University Alumni Association of Malaya, Permanent Honorary President of The Federation of Hokkien Associations of Malaysia, Honorary Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Centre for Malaysian Chinese Studies, and Honorary President of the Federation of Lu ng Yen Association of Malaysia and Honorary President of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Hokkien Association. Hew Hoi Lam

Hew Hoi Lam was born on 17 July 1947 in Cheroh New Village, Raub, Pahang, with ancestral roots in Huiyang, Fui Chiu. He attended primary and secondary education at St. John’s Institution in Kuala Lumpur. He graduated with an Honours degree in Architecture from University of North London. He is a registered architect with the Board of Architects Malaysia and also members of various professional organization, Board of Architect Malaysia (LAM), member of the Malaysian Institute of Architects (APAM), member of the Royal British Architects (RIBA), fellow of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (FRAIA), member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK (MCIArb) and member of the Association of Project Management, UK (MAPM). Dato’ Hew founded the architectural firm Akitek Supra in 1969. In 2002, he was conferred the title of Dato’ by His Royal Highness Sultan of Pahang, and in 2006, he was appointed Justice of the Peace by the Governor of the State of Melaka. Since 2007, he has been serving as a Board of Director of SJKC (C) Chee Wen in Subang Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan. In 2022, he was appointed as the Fui Chiu representative for the board of trustees for the temple and has been serving since then.
