Transformation of Kuala Lumpur
Historical Kuala Lumpur Panoramic View

This area of museum exhibits stunning historical panoramic photographs. Let’s walk through them and witness the transformation of Kuala Lumpur, experience the perseverance of our predecessors, and feel the glory past of Kuala Lumpur.
The first photo is the panoramic view of Kuala Lumpur taken in 1884 by the G. R. Lambert & Co Photographic Agency at Bluff Road Hill, which is Bukit Aman nowadays.
The second photo is a panoramic view of Kuala Lumpur taken from Bluff Road Hill, now Bukit Aman, ca. (circa) 1888 – 1894. The dating is based on the presence of the Gombak Lane Malay Raja School, which opened in 1888 to the left of the image, the original Kuala Lumpur Railway Station, which inaugurated in 1886, visible to the right of the photograph, and the absence of the Government Office Buildings, whose construction began in 1894 in the centre of the image, where the Padang may be readily recognised.
The third photo is the view of Kuala Lumpur taken around 1897, when the government office, or Sultan Abdul Samad Building today was completed. At this time, Kuala Lumpur had mostly brick buildings and started to show the scale of a city.
The fourth photo shows Kuala Lumpur was relatively well developed in 1937. The early urban planning and major roads are still in place today. The photo shows the Old Market Square, Central Market, Sin Sze Si Ya Temple and the building of the Fui Chiu Association.
The fifth panoramic picture, taken by the photographer, documents the prosperous Kuala Lumpur city centre during the year 2021. In the photo, many iconic buildings of Kuala Lumpur are visible, such as the Kuala Lumpur Tower, Petronas Twin Tower, and the Merdeka 118 skyscraper, which was under construction in 2021 and has now been completed.
